CHERNOBYL ROSES

CHERNOBYL ROSES

ODETTE FARRELL (UK)
Wood, ceramic, wire

45 x 55 x 35 cm

2019

These pieces have the name ‘Chernobyl’ as I was inspired by life emerging again from the cracks of broken systems. Many years after the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, scientists found that many species facing risk of extinction have moved to the area attracted by the absence of humans. For these two pieces in particular, I worked with materials I found or that were given to me, like the beautiful rotten piece of wood found by the canal or the old and wrecked mini chest of drawers given to me, which incited me to make these pieces.
